PETER de COURCY HERO
Peter Hero is Senior Fellow at the Center for Social Innovation at the Stanford Graduate Business School. From 1989 to 2007 he was President and CEO of Community Foundation Silicon Valley (CFSV), where, in that time, he grew total endowed assets from less than $8 million to over $1.2 billion, with charitable grants exceeding $150 million annually.
Prior to this position, Peter was President of the Maine College of Art, a 4-year college of art and design. He holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University School of Business, a B.A. (Magna Cum Laude) and M.A. (With Distinction) in Art History from Williams College, and (Honorary) Doctor of Laws (LLD) from the Maine College of Art.
In 1991, Peter was appointed by President George Bush to a 6-year term on the National Council for the Arts, confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Other recent recognition includes the Lifetime Achievement in the Arts (by Arts Council Silicon Valley) and, in statewide recognition by the California State Arts Council, Exemplary Contributions to the Arts. Fortune Magazine, in an extensive article on CFSV, noted that: “It is Peter Hero, more than anyone else, who has shown Silicon Valley how to give by channeling the area’s distinctive culture into an unusual brand of charity: demanding, ambitious, self-conscious, creative, even risky everything you’d expect from Silicon Valley.”
Peter is the Founding Chairman of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) Foundation and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Skoll Foundation, eBay Foundation, PBS, the American India Foundation, and was a founding Director of the Entrepreneur’s Foundation. Peter is a past Director of the Council on Foundations where he chaired the National Committee on Community Foundations, and the World Bank Advisory Committee on global community foundation development.
For more than 14 years Peter has been working in Central and Eastern Europe to promote corporate social responsibility and to create networks of community foundations. For this work Czech Republic President Vaclav Havel appointed Peter to the 2002 NATO Summit Council of Advisors in Prague. His writing has been published in the United States and Europe. His most recent book, Local Mission, Global Vision, Community Foundations in the 21st Century, was published by the Foundation Center in New York, October, 2008, and has been translated into 4 languages.

Christine Edwards (B. App. Sc; Grad. Cert. Public Sector Management; MaHA) is the Chief Executive Officer of The Myer Foundation, and the Sidney Myer Fund. Both the Foundation and the Fund continue the philanthropic legacy of Sidney Myer and the succeeding generations of the Myer family.
Christine’s career has spanned health, community services, and the philanthropic sectors. In Victoria, she has been the Chief Executive Officer of St George’s Hospital, and Bethlehem Hospital, responsible for delivering inpatient and community services for the aged, people with chronic and progressive neurological conditions, and people requiring palliative care. Prior to settling in Victoria, Christine held senior positions in Western Australia and Tasmania in portfolios of mental health, aged care, dental, alcohol and drug services, women’s health, child protection and youth justice.
Christine is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, an Associate Fellow of the Australian College of Health Service Executives, and a member of the Institute of Public Administration Australia. She is also Deputy Chair of the Asia-Pacific Philanthropy Consortium.
Christine graduated from Curtin University in Western Australia, has postgraduate qualifications from Flinders University in South Australia and recently completed a Master of Health Administration at LaTrobe University.

ZAIM SAIDI
Zaim Saidi has more than 20 years of experience in the NGO movement in Indonesia, as well as in consumer protection, environmental movement and in public policy research and advocacy. Recently he has focussed on social responsibility and philanthropy for his research and advocacy works. He has published works on consumer, environment, as well as civic rights issues. For his exemplary work in these fields, Zaim received the Public Interest Research Fellowship from Ralph Nader's Multinational Monitor in 1991, the Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) Fellowship in 1992-1994, and Merdeka Fellowship from the Government of Australia, in 1996-1997.
Other experiences include his work as a journalist. He served as a special editor in Berita Buana daily newspaper from 1991-1992, and in Republika from 1993-1997; and as guest colomnist for Swasembada, a monthly business magazine, on business ethics in 1991, and for Media Indonesia on consumers affairs, in 1994-1997. From July-October 2000 he co-hosted Kamar 619, a weekly television talk show on environment and sustainable development, nationally broadcasted by Televisi Pendidikan Indonesia (TPI).
He is presently the Chairperson of the Public Interest Research and Advocacy Center (PIRAC), a research-based advocacy group. He is also associated with Reform Institute, a non-government think tank based in Jakarta, and serves as its Research Director since 2008. In addition Zaim Saidi also active in Tabung Wakaf Indonesia (TWI) since February 2008 as its Executive Director.
He received his undergraduate degree in Food Technology and Human Nutrition from Bogor Institute of Agriculture (1986) and his Master of Public Affairs (Hon) degree from the University of Sydney, Australia (1998). In 2005 he conducted a sabbatical leave for 10 months in Dallas College, Cape Town, South Africa.

MICHAEL LIFFMAN
Dr Michael Liffman (BA hons., Melb; M.Sc [Social Admin], LSE; Ph.D, Melb;) is founding Director of the Asia-Pacific Centre for Philanthropy and Social Investment at Swinburne University, Melbourne, Australia. Michael has a background in social policy, research and community work.
After working with a number of community agencies, Michael went – as some have described it – from poacher to gamekeeper, as CEO of one of Australia’s leading philanthropic foundations, the Myer Foundation. His book on the history of Myer family philanthropy, A Tradition of Giving: Seventyfive Years of Myer Family Philanthropy was published by Melbourne University Publishing in 2004
Michael is a member of the Coordinating Committee of WINGS (Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support). He is a former President of the Australian Association of Philanthropy, and was a member of the International Network on Strategic Philanthropy. Other involvements have included membership of the Human Research Ethics Committee of the Government of Victoria’s Department of Human Services, the Community Advisory Committee of the Special Broadcasting Service, and the Immigration Review Tribunal.
His publications include Power for the Poor (Allen & Unwin 1978), Refugees, Resources and Reunion, [ed, with Birrel, Hay and Glezer] (VCTA 1989), editorship of Migration Action, and ‘the Non-profit Motive in Civil Society’ in Australian Philanthropy Research Papers 2000.

DR. BHEKINKOSI MOYO
Program Director
Dr. Moyo joined TrustAfrica in March 2007 as a research fellow and became Program Director in May 2009. Known for his expertise in philanthropy, civil society, and governance, he holds a doctorate in political science from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. He previously worked at the Africa Institute of South Africa and at the Institute for Democracy in South Africa. He has written and published very many book chapters, journal articles, conference papers, and co-edited What About the Children: The Silent Voices in Maintenance (2004), which explores issues of poverty, abuse, and the social security system in South Africa in the 21st century. His latest edited book, Africa in the Global Power Play: Debates, Challenges and Potential Reforms (Adonis & Abbey, London, 2007), addresses the current position of Africa in international political and economic relations. He is currently completing an edited book, titled: The State of Philanthropy in Africa.

DON MOHANLAL
Don Mohanlal (“Mohan”) is President and CEO of The Nand & Jeet Khemka Foundation, a family foundation that is an established Indian public charitable trust based in New Delhi. The Foundation represents a desire to create a modern strategic philanthropic foundation in India that can leverage limited resources to help develop the country through a strategic vision. The foundation is heavily invested in the key areas of climate change, social entrepreneurship, leadership development and development infrastructure.
Previously, Mohan was the Managing Director/Executive Vice President of the International Youth Foundation (IYF), in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. IYF was founded through the largest grant ever made by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. Mohan joined IYF’s founder as the first professional staff member, and having responsibility for the Global Partner Network expanded the organization to developing partnerships in over 60 countries, to become the largest public foundation in the world singularly dedicated to improving the conditions and prospects for young people. Mohan developed innovative philanthropic models including working with President Martti Ahtisaari to create the Balkan Children and Youth Foundation (the first Balkan-wide initiative after the war in Kosovo) and with Professor Rita Suessmuth to create the German Children and Youth Foundation (the first Public Private Partnership since German reunification.)
Prior to that, he served as Executive Vice President, Programs and Operations; Vice President for Asia and the Pacific, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean; and Director for Northern and Western Europe, of AFS Intercultural Programs.
Mohan serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Prince of Wales Bhumi Vardaan Foundation (the Indian affiliate of Duchy Originals); the Advisory Board of the Centre for Emerging Markets Solutions at the Indian School of Business; the Board of Advisors of the World Bank’s Global Public – Private Partnership for Youth Investment; a Senior Advisor to ImagineNations Group; the Board of Trustees of AFS Intercultural Programs; the Board of Directors of the AFS Foundation in Switzerland; the Board of Directors of CIRD Community Foundation, Paraguay; and is a member of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. Mohan has served on the Technical Advisory Group for Adolescent Health and Development at the World Health Organization.
He has also served on the International Committee of the European Foundation Centre and the Annual Program Committee of the Council on Foundations in the US.

Ralph graduated from Warwick University in the UK with a Bsc in Management Science after completing his high school education at Shiplake College, UK. He also has a Diploma in Mandarin from the Taiwan Normal Teachers University.
He has worked in investment banking and operational roles in Asia and Europe. He started out with Hoare Govett’s fund management joint venture (Kwang Hwa Investment Trust) in Taiwan, and was thereafter transferred to Hoare Govett’s London office. Following that, he worked in Malaysia with Hong Leong Securities and then as Country Manager for Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, Taiwan. After 15 years in investment banking, he moved into an operational role as the CEO of the paper converting factories of an Australian paper packaging company, Detmold Packaging in Indonesia and South Africa, focused on implementing and achieving accreditation for HACCP, ISO, GMP, CSR and other sustainability programs. He then joined Hong Leong Asia in Singapore as CEO for a recycled wood packaging subsidiary. Following that, he moved to YTL Corp Bhd as Director of Environmental Investments focusing on private equity in the environmental sector and CDM consulting work globally.
Ralph was born in Malaysia. He speaks fluent English and Mandarin, and plays golf, squash, bridge and competes in open-water swimming and triathlon events around Asia.

I Made Suaranatha, a graduate of the Bogor Agicultural Institute, in Indonesia has more than 20 years of experience in the areas of environmental protection and ecology related resources management.
He was the field office coordinator of Bali Sustainable Development Project, a twinning project between University of Waterllo, Canada and University of Gadjah Mada, Indonesia in coordination with University of Udayana, Bali-Indonesia. He is the Founder of the Wisnu Foundation, a Bali based NGO founded in 1993 to deal with environmental concerns and community resources management to save Bali from environmental destruction.. In 2000, Yayasan Wisnu initiated eco-tourism projects in four villages in BALI (Sibetan, Tenganan, Pelaga and Ceningan. It is known as the Village Ecotourim Network (Jaringan EkowisataDesa/JED). He is an active facilitator for South East Asia Popular Communication Program (SEAPCP).

ERNA WITOELAR

Erna Witoelar is currently chairperson of the Asia Pacific Philanthropy Consortium based in Manila, also chairing the Partnership for Governance Reform and the Foundation for Local Governance Innovation, both in Indonesia. She helped in establishing and is on the advisory board of the Association for Philanthropy in Indonesia, and she is on the board of several CSOs like the Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation, the Indonesian Sustainable Development Foundation; the Earth Charter International based in Costa Rica, etc.
She is the former Indonesian Minister of Human Settlements and Regional Development (1999-2001). Previously, she was the UN Special Ambassador for MDGs in Asia Pacific (2003-2007), and a commissioner of the Commission for Legal Empowerment of the Poor (2005-2008). She was founder of the Indonesian Environmental Forum, also presidents of both the Indonesian Consumer Foundation and Consumers International.
She graduated in chemical engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology, and finished her post graduate studies in Human Ecology from the University of Indonesia.

Professor Dr. Mustaffa Mohamed Zain was born in Kota Bharu about 50 years ago. Now he is married with 4 sons, a daughter in-law and the latest loves of his life, 2 grand-daughters. Prof. Mustaffa had his early educations in Kota Bharu and later went to Technical Institution, Kuantan. After high school, he was compelled to study Diploma in Accountancy at ITM which later proved to be the best move he ever made because that was the beginning of his journey towards where he is now (he claims that he has found happiness). He pursued BBA and MBA Accounting at St. Louis University and managed to complete both within 2.5 years. He was also awarded “The Who’s Who amongst Students in American Universities’ and “The National’s Dean’s List” for his excellent academic achievements and leadership qualities.
Having graduated with MBA in 1987, Prof Mus and his wife began their career as lecturers at ITM Terengganu. After serving ITM Terengganu and ITM Sarawak for 7 years, Mustaffa went on to pursue PhD. In 1999, he was awarded a PhD from University of Sheffield. He was the first Malaysian to complete a thesis on Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure. Actually prior to his academic career, Prof Mustaffa has woked in the private sector for almost 5 years as a bank officer and an accounts executive.
Mustaffa has held many posts at UiTM, among which, Head of Program, Deputy Provost for Student Affairs of UiTM Sarawak, Provost and Campus Director of UiTM Terengganu. During his tenure as Campus Director, he succeeded in creating the research culture and inculcating new values, which had brought the campus to a higher level. The concept of “Contoh Melalui Tauladan” has been his main thrust and as a result the number of research in Terengganu has multiplied to several folds during the five years. In 2005, UiTM Terengganu was awarded the “Anugerah Al-Khawarizmi”.
In search for high quality and excellence, he embarked and championed the movement towards ISO certification. By 2005, all the programs in Terengganu were ISO certified. January 2006, he moved up the career ladder when he was entrusted with the post of Assistant Vice Chancellor InQKA. The quality journey continues. He managed to create a pleasant and conducive working ambiance with the working culture of good governance and excellent leadership, timeliness, passion, integrity. “Ikhlas” and “Kekitaan” have been his main emphasis. In 2007, quality level has improved by leaps and bounds. Proven and approved, Prof Mustaffa was entrusted with the present post and responsibilities, to head the Academic and International Affairs of UiTM.
An active writer, Prof Mustaffa has published several books and contributed articles to the academic and business journals locally as well as abroad. Mustaffa is also an active researcher particularly in Islamic Accounting and Culture, Corporate Social and Environmental Accounting and Corporate Social Responsibility. Prof Mustaffa is the founder for the Centre for Responsibility and Islamic Accounting (CeRIA), the first of its kind in the world. He is an editor of Social Responsibility Journal based in the UK and a fellow-researcher for UiTM-ACCA Financial Reporting Research Centre.
Having achieved all that for himself, Mustaffa is most known for what he is and what he has done for others. His personal mission has always been to make life better for everyone, the best he could. Well, he has touched many lives in one way or another. And that is an achievement.

He has been bestowed honors such as the SMS, Selangor State & DPMS Penang State and the also ASIA HRD CONGRESS AWARD. His community service activities are with the SRI MURUGAN CENTRE (SMC), founded in 1982, a social welfare movement to guide Indian students in education. Beginning with 4 centres in 1983, today there are more than 200 centres nationwide taking care of about 20,000 students a year at all levels from UPSR to STPM. The movement has 2000 volunteers primarily comprising former SMC students. SMC believes that excellence in education is achieved through discipline and such discipline can be attained through religion.
